Galaxy S5′s Fingerprint Scanner To Be Built Into The Home Button [Rumor]
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is expected to break cover next week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. While there has been plenty spoken about the smartphone’s hardware specifications and its other variants, there was some doubt over the implementation of the fingerprint scanner in the smartphone.
But those doubts have seemingly been cast aside today after a Samsung insider confirmed the existence of biometric security built into the handset’s home button.
According to a report from SamMobile, the Galaxy S5 will follow Apple’s iPhone 5s (there’s a surprise!) with a fingerprint scanner embedded in its home button. It is claimed that this scanner will display the user’s fingerprint on the screen in real time as it is swiped.
Samsung’s implementation could go a little further than Apple’s, though. It’s thought that Galaxy S5 owners will be able to register different fingerprints for different user accounts, then load a whole different bunch of apps and settings depending on which fingerprint is scanned.
We expect to learn more about Samsung’s implementation of the fingerprint sensor at its Unpacked 5 event next week at MWC, and we’ll be sure to bring you the news as soon as we get it.
