A new rumor claims that the upcomingSamsung Galaxy S5 will be dust- and water-resistant, just like the current Galaxy S4 Active. The information comes from sources close to Samsung, who claim to be familiar with the South Korean company’s plans.
The sources told ZDNet Korea, “for the previously released Galaxy S4, water-proof and dust-proof capabilities were adapted to the handset’s variants. But for the Galaxy S5, the standard model will have them immediately.”
This move could be made to compete with the likes of the Sony Xperia Z1 and other Sony flagships, which feature water and dust resistance right out of the box. But since this is unconfirmed information, we suggest you take it with a pinch of salt until it’s confirmed by Samsung.
The Galaxy S5 is set for an unveiling on February 24 during Samsung’s Unpacked 5 event at Mobile World Congress, which could also be host to the arrival of three new Galaxy Tab 4 tablets, and a second-generation Galaxy Gear smartwatch.
Here’s what we know about the hardware of the Galaxy S5 at this point:
- 5.25 inch QHD display
- 16 megapixel camera
- 3GB of RAM
- 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 805 chipset
- Android 4.4 KitKat
