Gionee Elife S5.5 Is The World’s Thinnest Smartphone
Chinese manufacturer Gionee has today unveiled the world’s thinnest smartphone with the Elife S5.5. The device is just 5.55 millimeters thick — which is incredible for a device of its size — and it’s well equipped when it comes to internal hardware. In addition to a 5-inch 720p display, the Elife S5.5 boasts a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and an octa-core MediaTek CPU.
That CPU is clocked at 1.7GHz, and it’s coupled with 2GB of RAM and a 2,300 mAh battery that promises to last an entire day on a full charge — something you’d expect from a decent smartphone. There is no LTE connectivity at the moment — it’s 3G only — but Gionee is planning an LTE variant for June.
The Elife S5.5 also comes with 16GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot for expansion.
Gionee has priced the smartphone at roughly $370 in China, so we can expect a slightly higher price tag in global markets. Prior to the Elife S5.5, the Vivo X3 held the thinnest smartphone crown, measuring 5.75mm thick.
